Manchester United maintained their 100 per cent home record in this season's Premier League by edging out rivals Tottenham on Saturday.

Manchester United 1-0 Tottenham PLAYER RATINGS:

Manchester United (3-4-1-2)

David De Gea 7 – Still to concede a league goal at Old Trafford this season, and saved well from Dier towards the end of the first half. Also started the move for United's goal with a booming kick.

Eric Bailly 7 – United were more solid for his return after a month out. He certainly didn't allow Spurs to bully the defence as Huddersfield had done a week previously.
Chris Smalling 6.5 – Lacked conviction when bringing ball out of defence, choosing to go sideways or backwards instead of being a springboard for United attacks.

Phil Jones 7 – Old-school centre-half whose importance was obvious when he went off injured at Huddersfield. Often the last line of defence yesterday.

Antonio Valencia 6.5 – The United armband fits him well but blotted copybook for diving over Dembele to try and win penalty. Caught a 20-yard shot brilliantly that flew just over.

Nemanja Matic 7 – Gave United's back line good protection. Settled in well at Old Trafford after his surprising £40million move from Chelsea and showed good vision with his passing.

Ander Herrera 6.5 – United's winder-up-in-chief, he niggled Alli and claimed he was caught in the face by the Spurs man. Busy and energetic in the engine room in absence of Pogba and Fellaini.

Ashley Young 7 – New lease of life under Jose Mourinho as an attacking left wing-back. Great delivery. Substituted.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 5.5 – Burst into life at the start of the second half with a shot that forced Hugo Lloris to parry. But overall contribution not good enough. Substituted.

Romelu Lukaku 6.5 – Five games without scoring but the £75million striker gave a great assist to Martial and also hit the post with a thumping header.

Marcus Rashford 6.5 – Has assets in his game but can still improve on scoring bread-and-butter goals. Was beaten to a loose ball by Davies when only a couple of yards out for a tap-in. Went close with a good free-kick. Substituted.
Substitutes

Jese Lingard 6.5 (for Mkhitaryan 65) – Produced a great cross which saw Lukaku hit the woodwork but wasted one-on-one chance to score United's second.

Anthony Martial 7 (for Rashford 70) – Lifted United's performance immediately and kept his composure to break the deadlock from Lukaku's flick.
Matteo Darmian (for Young 90)

Subs unused: Sergio Romero (Gk), Juan Mata, Daley Blind, Scott McTominay
Manager Jose Mourinho 7 – United upped their tempo in the second half and he made the right changes.
