Cristiano Ronaldo has named former Arsenal and Chelsea star Ashley Cole.his toughest ever opponent.
Cole, now aged 37, is winding down his career plying his trade in the MLS for LA Galaxy.
But at his peak, he was the best in the business for both club and country as a marauding left-back.
The forward was a guest this week on Spanish talk show El Chiringuito TV, and sat down with presenters to answer a series of quick-fire questions.
Ronaldo answered several questions, before being momentarily stumped when asked: 'Who is the toughest defender you have played against?.'
The 32-year-old pondered over the question before confidently answering: 'Ashley Cole.'
Cole controversially signed for Chelsea in 2006 from London rivals Arsenal.
He made a total of 229 appearances for the club before he left to join Roma as a free agent in 2014.
When he retired from international football in 2014, Cole had won 107 caps, making him England's most capped full-back.
