There remains just about a month until the winter market opens up and rumors suggest that Real Madrid will be active. El Laguero, an affiliate of Cadena SER, reported that Brahim Diaz, one of the most talented youngsters playing his trade out of Spain, is an objective for Madrid—not on a free in the summer, but immediately in the winter market. He is yet to renew his deal with Manchester City that expires in 2019, with many clubs swooning over Brahim’s potential signature

From an economical standpoint, the decision to sign Brahim Diaz in the winter market makes very little sense. Unless the club feel the 19-year-old, with only a handful of professional games under his belt, could make an immediate impact on the sporting side. Where he fits in the team remains to be seen, but the clubs stockpile of U20 talent continues to grow: Rodrygo Goes, Vinicius Jr, Martin Odeegard, Fede Valverde, Exequiel Palacios (pending official confirmation), Theo Hernandez, and Andriy Lunin are among the big names. That list excludes some good talent rising through the ranks in the youth academy.

As exciting as the future may seem, with the hope that some—even just one or two of these talents making it to superstardom— Madridista’s continue to be frustrated by the on-field performances of the current crop of stars. Will the winter market bring a player in his prime? It’s unlikely given the history of Madrid in the winter market, but the current results were certainly have some board members contemplating a move for a more established player. Santiago Solari men have a big week ahead of them with a trip to Roma in the Champions League followed by a La Liga clash with Valencia, who have won two successive games for the first time this season. Thoughts will need to be on how to improve the current squad, rather than transfers
