Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling is the 'best player in the Premier League', according to Match of the Day pundit Jermaine Jenas

Raheem Sterling has improved from last season and can now be considered the best player in the Premier League, according to Match of the Day pundit Jermaine Jenas.

Sterling scored Manchester City's second goal in the 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday, and is now the joint-top scorer in the Premier League as well as providing the most assists so far this season.

Pep Guardiola had rested the likes of David Silva, John Stones and Kyle Walker for the visit of the Cherries, while Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne missed the game through injury.

And Jenas says Sterling's leadership against Bournemouth was particularly impressive, especially as the visitors were level at 1-1 at half time.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Jenas said: "We thought last season he was absolutely outstanding and he's kicked on again today.

"No Aguero, no David Silva, no De Bruyne - these players that they would turn to in moments you would class as tough moments, tough games to make it happen. He's now that and that's the place that Pep Guardiola puts this guy.

"This is a very young man in this team by the way. And he seems to enjoy it, he specifically grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half. It's almost like he said 'alright, we have played in bits and pieces in this game, but I'm gonna be driving at this defence. I'm gonna be committing defenders.'

Jenas continued, and said Sterling's form makes him the best player in the league at the moment.

"[Bournemouth defender] Charlie Daniels didn't know what to do at times. That's not me having a go at Charlie Daniels, he was against an exceptional talent in Raheem today.

"The decisions he was making, he's putting fear into defenders. In my opinion he's the best player in the Premier League right now. The way that he's playing I don't think anyone can dispute that."
