How many defenders in the world posses the superb quality to stop Lionel Messi? Not many but Andy Robertson believes he is one of them.
The tenacious left back feels he has the speed, agility as well as defensive attributes to stop Messi who has early vowed he will deliver the Champions League trophy to them.
Achieving that fate, means Barcelona must knock out last season finalist Liverpool who now have the world best defender in their ranks flanked by two fascinating left and right backs in Andy Robertson and Alexander Arnold.
Robertson was asked if he can stop Lionel Messi, he replied:
'Messi and Ronaldo have been the best players for years", Robertson told the Daily Mail.
"They have been head and shoulders above the rest for the last eight, nine years. We know how tough it will be. If you do manage to come up with a plan to stop Messi, we know what Phil and Suarez can do. The team is full of stars".
Determined the break the hearts of the Camp Nou faithful, Robertson added:
"We need to be on our game. We need to be 100% defensively but we believe we can cause them problems going forward as well".
Liverpool will play Barcelona at Camp Nou in the first leg of the Champions League and Robertson will be in contention to start.
