Manchester United’s title hopes are now dead, as they sit 13 points off of first place in the Premier League after a very late equalizer from Harry Maguire denied the Reds a victory at Leicester City.
A brace from Juan Mata had appeared to be enough to secure the win after an opener from racist abuser Jamie Vardy, but continued wastefulness and a failure to control the final minutes cost United a vital three points.
In added time and with 10 players, Leicester defender Harry Maguire volleyed home at the back post after a stunning cross from Marc Albrighton to steal a 2-2 draw for the hosts.
"The quality is wonderful from Albrighton, the finish is fantastic.
Neville was shocked that Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling was marking Maguire. Smalling had just returned onto the field after receiving treatment on a leg injury and he was clearly in discomfort as he struggled to jump to head the cross.
“You can’t believe it, he (Jose Mourinho) cannot believe it," Gary Neville said on Sky Sports.
"And I have to say, have I just seen what I have just seen?
"It’s an unbelievable cross from Albrighton.
"But Chris Smalling has just come back onto the pitch into a central defensive position, I cannot believe he’s gone back on in there into a position to pick up the best header of the ball at the back post.
"You see him limping there at the back post with Ashley Young, and it’s incredible.
"He had a chance in the first half Maguire, it’s an unbelievable finish to this match.
"You have to question whether De Gea should be out there, it’s three yards out from goal.
"But take nothing away from Leicester, a wonderful moment for those fans."
