Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho showed no sign of a rift as the former interrupted a TV interview to congratulate the latter.

The French midfielder was a surprise omission from the Manchester United squad for the visit of Liverpool to Old Trafford this afternoon.

It was revealed to be due to an injury picked up in training yesterday – something Mourinho confirmed before the game. Despite the explanation, speculation continued about there being a rift between Pogba and Mourinho

Manchester United beat their old rivals 2-1 at Old Trafford, with Marcus Rashford scoring a brace and an Eric Bailly own goal halving the visitors' deficit in the second half.

Liverpool dominated proceedings overall, however, weighing in with 14 shots, winning 13 corners and boasting 68% of possession, but could not make the most of their second-half revival

There was plenty of talk of Liverpool’s attacking threat as they headed to Old Trafford on Saturday, but Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku did all the damage as Manchester United took a tighter grip on second place in the Premier League.
