Steven Gerrard believes Mohamed Salah must not think about Roma being his former club ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final this evening.

Liverpool host Italian giants Roma in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tonight at Anfield.

“I have a really good connection with Mo because I really like his movement and I was a play that really liked to provide service to the frontmen,” Gerrard told BT Sport.

“It’s just a shame that I’m a lot older than him but I’m abig fan, I’m a big supporter of his and I really like what he’s doing at the moment.

“He’s vital to Liverpool in the big picture in terms of Liverpool being successful. He’s such an important part of the jigsaw.

“His goal return this season has been phenomenal.”

Gerrard believes he must forget he's facing his former side.

“I think it’s important he goes into the game and doesn’t really think about Roma being an ex club and continues to do what he’s been doing which is being magnificent.”

Salah has scored 40 goals in all competitions this season including eight in the Champions League and Gerrard believes the 25-year-old is vital to Liverpool’s success.
